So Sudan's top trading partners, including imports and exports, are
1. China
2. United Kingdom
3. Japan
4. Saudi Arabia
Sudan imports a lot more than it exports.
I suppose that China is the largest trading partner because they make cheap products. They use sweat shops and cut costs on labor tremendously. China is a huge importer to Sudan because their material are so inexpensive to buy. China is also close to Sudan compared to the Mexico or the United States, which are across the ocean. Either way though, China is the leader is cheap labor, thus the leader in cheap products. So, that would be financial reasons.
China is very interested in a lot of the African nations due to their wealth of natural resources that which China wants. So, to get the African resources, China is assisting in the building of infrastructure all over Africa. They think it will pay off.
I suppose that the United Kingdom would be second because they colonial interests. Germany likes to trade with African countries because there are German colonies there as well as Arabs. Historical ties count for more trade with Sudan. They are also an established country, they probably produce a lot of industrial equipment which is Sudan's number one import. So, that would be geographical reasons.
Japan would be third because of technology and cheap labor. That would be financial reasons.
Saudi Arabia would be fourth because they're Muslim just like Sudan and are close to them. So that would be political, cultural, lingual, geographical, and political reasons.
